Manila (Fides Service) - A new Don Bosco Communications and Information Technology Institute opened in Makati, the financial centre of Manila City by the Salesian Fathers, is a centre of interest.
The Institute was opened on 24 January this year after much reflection and practical preparation.
ANS the Salesian official news service says besides offering training in the most advanced technology of information and communication the institute operates as a centre of computer services for the Salesian community in general in the Philippines. CITI aims to reduce the “digital divide” in the country, promoting low cost information technology and methods, making them more accessible for the general public. The Institute will operate in close contact with other similar state and private owned institutions, offering qualified training to its pupils.
At CITI new IT is used in the didactic approach: for example teachers send homework lists by PDA (Personal digital assistant) in wireless; students receive and download didactic material via e-mail or are informed by SMS; many texts in the CITI library are available on CD-ROM.
The CITI is one of several Salesian training colleges and schools in various parts of the the Philippines including Don Bosco Academy in the province of Pampanga; Don Bosco College and Don Bosco High School, in Laguna; Don Bosco Technical College and Don Bosco School in Manila; Don Bosco Technical Institute in the West Negros and the St. Louis School - Don Bosco in East Negros.
