Rome (Agenzia Fides) - The Italian National branch of the Church movement Renewal in the Spirit elected new committee of leaders for a four year term 2007-10, during a meeting held last weekend in Frascati (Rome). About 200 members of the National Council elected new national president Salvatore Martinez, former national coordinator; new national coordinator Mario Landi; director Marcella Reni; head of diffusion Rev Fulvio Di Fulvio; head of formation Fr Giovanni Alberti c.p.; head of participation Dino De Dominicis,.
A national committee statement sent to Fides said the election was held in keeping with the new RNS statutes recently approved by the standing council of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Italy, which introduced the new figure of national president with the task of overseeing institutions and formative activities and to represent the RNS to the Holy See and the Italian Bishops’ Conference CEI.
The national coordinator will coordinate pastoral, ministerial and organisational activities while the director will be responsible for economic, juridical and administrative matters. The CEI will soon appoint a new RnS national Spiritual Director.
Among those present at the RnS Meeting in Frascati, Bishop Lorenzo Chiarinelli of the diocese of Viterbo who gave a talk on the theme: “We have decided, we and the Holy Spirit (Acts 15,28): the comfort and the assistance of the Holy Spirit in the early Christian communities”. Bishop Chiarinelli said that “Renewal means, making new” and should represent for each member a ‘process’ of ongoing conversion, a spiritual ‘path’ for life, an undeserved gift of God and a ‘task’ to complete with commitment and responsibility in the Church. “The coinciding fortieth anniversary of Catholic Charismatic Renewal and the approval of the national statute and election of new national leaders”, said the new president Salvatore Martinez “encourages our Movement to continue with new impulse our response to the challenge of new evangelisation. How many people have never heard of Christ. How many have lost the joy of saying, I am Christian!”. (S.L.) (Agenzia Fides 5/2/2007; Righe 27 - Parole 335)
