AMERICA/BRASIL - Inaugurated new web site for Pope Benedict XVI’s May visit

Aparecida (Agenzia Fides) - As from 1 February news information on preparations for Pope Benedict XVI’s scheduled visit in May to Aparecida Brazil for the inauguration of the 5th General Conference of the Council of Latin American Bishops’ Conferences can be found at a new web site opened especially for the occasion.
The continually updated web site http://www.visitadopapa.org.br provides all kinds of information on the major church event, so important for the Church in Brazil. The material available includes a biography of Pope Benedict XVI, and photographs of Mosteiro São Bento where the Holy Father will stay; information on the activity of the various Commissions and respective commission heads involved in the preparation. On the same day, 1 February, the Papal Visit Executive Secretariat was officially inaugurated.
Cardinal Geraldo Majella Agnelo Archbishop of Sao Salvador and president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Brazil (CNBB), confirmed that Pope Benedict XVI is due to arrive on May 9 and that his visit will including a meeting with young people at Estádio do Pacaembu, an open air Mass at Campo de Marte and a meeting with the Bishops of Brazil at the Cathedral of Sao Paulo. On Sunday 13 May the Pope will solemnly open the first session of the 5th General Conference of the Council of Latin American Bishops’ Conferences.
