Oaxaca (Agenzia Fides) - “Oxaca needs families united with values lived concretely in their convictions to lead society in a new beginning. We must not lose this opportunity to transform Oaxaca” the Archbishop of Oaxaca José Luis Chávez Botello and his auxiliary Bishop Oscar Campos Contreras said in a statement ‘Caring for and Strengthening the Family’.
The Bishops say Oaxaca society is recovering but very slowly thanks to much effort. But “besides social reconciliation and state reforms, it is necessary to care for and strengthen our families” for many reasons. First of all because everything affects the family "when culture, education, the economy, politics or society in general suffer this has a direct effect on the life of the family", and "the family is the best place for giving new vigour to people". It is also the most important place for socialisation, the "best school of life and the most important place for humanisation".
"Everything which happens in society affects the family - the statement continues - and vice versa what happens in the family affects other fields of life". Hence the need to being about change in the family "in order to bring about important changes in society". This is why the Bishops say " Families have an important mission to help restore longed for justice, integral development and peace in Oaxaca; unless the family is involved all efforts to improve society will be useless". They conclude encouraging parents to keep the family united in love and all those working to defend and strengthen the family". (RG) (Agenzia Fides 31/1/2007; righe 23, parole 321)
