Koupéla (Agenzia Fides) - New graphics for Kugpεεl-Kibare Bulletin published by the archdiocese of Koupéla in Burkina Faso. Fifteen pages in magazine form with a cover in colour, the bulletin intends to remain “an accessible channel of information and connection for the sons and daughters and friends of the diocese of Koupéla” editor Rev. Oubda, writes in the editorial of the first new issue (January-February 2007) which focuses mainly on aspects of Catholic schooling.
Koupela’s diocesan Director for Catholic Education Rev Théodore Ouedraogo says “Catholic education in our diocese as in the rest of the country is striving to guarantee stability of teaching staff in primary schools”. In the last 6 years many teachers have left church schools to teach in state owned schools.
The local Church is negotiating with the government to guarantee Catholic school teachers the same economic conditions as teachers in government schools.
The greater part of Catholic school pupils passed the state exam at the end of primary school. A result which must be maintained says Rev. Oubda: “to convince Catholic parents to send their children to Catholic schools they must see that it is worthwhile; one unquestionable proof is that our children pass state exams”. (L.M.)
