Friday, 19 January 2007

Nairobi (Agenzia Fides) - About 100,000 members of civil society organisations and local bodies are expected to attend the 7th World Social Forum in Nairobi which starts tomorrow 20 January and will conclude on Wednesday 25. The forum will open with a peace march starting from Nairobi’s Kibera shanty town, Africa’s largest slum.
This 2007 edition of the Forum will focus on Africa, its inequalities, its forgotten wars, violation of human rights and economic contradictions of a continent of enormous natural resources but with most of its population of 830 million living below the poverty line. Over 1,200 initiatives will also focus on peace, human rights and health. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 19/1/2007 righe 15 parole 152)
