Thursday, 21 December 2006

Seoul (Agenzia Fides) - The priority will be common: evangelisation. This was announced by the Catholic Bishops of Korea in respective pastoral letters issued towards the end of this year to inform the faithful of the themes chosen for Church’s pastoral activity in 2007. As agreed by the Bishops’ Conference, each Bishop addressed a letter to his own diocese adapting the theme to the specific context of his own territory .
The bishops illustrated their respective pastoral plans calling the faithful to offer generous collaboration and availability each, priests, religious, lay people, families, young people, children, according to their proper charisma.
In his Letter “The Church Proclaims Life”, Cardinal Nicholas Cheong, Archbishop of Seoul, wrote: “Life is the most precious of all values and the Church is called to protect life from all danger. Let us proclaim life with the image of Jesus who assisted the poor and the sick and with the image of Mary who respected life”.
Archbishop Paul Ri Moun-hi of Daegu said the year 2007 will be the Year of the Evangelisation of the Elderly: “Old age is not only a time of retirement it is a part of life’s journey and offers a future of hope”. He encouraged Catholics to care for the elderly and help them take a more active part in Church life.
In his Letter “In the Light”, Archbishop Andreas Choi Chang-mou of Kwangju, stressed that “what is important for the faithful is interior renewal within the ecclesial community”. To be authentic witnesses of Christ in the world the faithful are called to evangelise the community of people they have around them. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 21/12/2006 righe 25 parole 259)
