AMERICA/ARGENTINA - Forming pastoral workers for mission and sustaining evangelisation activity of the Church in Latin America: 2007 course at Cono Sud Missiology Centre, 25 years at the service of mission

Buenos Aires (Agenzia Fides) - The Juan Pablo II Cono Sud Missology Centre in Buenos Aires will offer its next course in Missiology 29 January to 17 February 2007. This centre for missionary animation and formation, opened in 1982, belongs to the Pontifical Mission Societies in Argentina. Its courses are attended by missionaries and pastoral workers from Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay and Chile.
The Course develops the theme of mission from different disciplinary perspectives (theological, pastoral, anthropological, cultural) in view of sustaining the evangelising activity of the Church in Latin America at home and beyond the frontiers. Specific goals include: help students to development a universal spirit in heart and mind to live to the full the Catholicity of the whole Church and discern the signs of the times present in Mission; grow in new criteria and attitudes to live the missionary dimension of one’s personal vocation; encourage concern for local missionaries and those of sister communities beyond the frontier; encourage collaboration with diocesan mission directors; update missiological studies according to the needs of the present day.
Themes include: Mission in the Bible; Theological foundations of Mission; Spirituality for Mission; history and panorama of mission; Anthropology and Culture for Mission; Christology for Mission; Ethics for Mission; Charisma and Mission of the Pontifical Mission Societies; Missionary Dimension of the Liturgy and the sacraments; Missionary dimension of catechesis; mission dimension of Mary.
On 10 February 2007 the Centre will mark its 25th anniversary. Special events include a conference on 31 January “Teresa of Lisieux - missiological traits”; 6 and 7 February a workshop “Canon Law and the Mission of the Church ”; 10 anniversary Mass and academic act on the theme “The Feast as first act of missiological reflection”; 14 February a conference on “Saint Francis Xavier 500 years since his birth”.
