Saturday, 2 December 2006

Ollur (Agenzia Fides) - Sunday 3 December there will be the beatification of Sr Eufrasia Eluvethingal, (nee Rosa Eluvethingal), of the Sisters of the Mother of Mount Carmel. Born in the Indian diocese of Trichur in 1877, she died in 1952 in the Carmelite Convent in the village of Ollur, where she spent her whole life. The Mass will be celebrated at Ollur (India), presided by Cardinal Varkey Vithayathil, Major Archbishop of Ernakulam-Angamaly. Sr Eufrasia, known as “the Mother who prays” was proclaimed a Servant of God in 1987 and Venerable in 2002. She dedicated her whole life to the Lord in a mystical and sponsal union, spending many hours rosary beads in hand in adoration in front of the Blessed Sacrament. People used to come and ask her intercession for various intentions: healing from illness, finding a job, helping children pass school exams … Sr Eufrasia promised her prayers the people considered her a saint. Her testimony is a life of faith and charity and her message is to keep our eyes set on the Eucharist. (S.L.) (Agenzia Fides 2/12/2006; righe:13, parole:201)
