Monday, 27 November 2006

Nairobi (Agenzia Fides)- “A strategic plan to outline key interventions at the social and economic level and establish the order and responsibilities of the interventions” said Kenya’s Planning Minister Henry Obwocha, describing Kenya Vision 2030, a new national development plan for the next 25 years starting from March 2007.
The Minister said the government will form a partnership with the private sector to promote national development and that private undertakings will play a crucial role in the new plan.
The Minister said he was sure that the economy would be drawn by industrial sectors internationally competitive and advanced services. He said information technology, technical services, formation, medical-health sector, tourism, zoo-technical system and a modern and efficient national infrastructure system are just as important.
KenyaVision 2030, officially announced by President Kibaki on November 1, aims to transform Kenya in an economic power. The first goal is to eradicate endemic evils: poverty, hunger, widespread unemployment, diffusion of curable mortal diseases such as malaria and infections caused by unclean water. The plan also intends to improve the political system in order to guarantee more efficient democratic institutions and better security for citizens.
The National Economic and Social Council NESC chaired by the President, will actuate and supervise the programme.
Besides development of infrastructures, agriculture and industry Kenya Vision 2030 stresses the importance of education and boosting tourism, to reach an annual average 5 million tourists by 2012.
Kenya’s population of 33 million is expected to increase to 44 million by 2025, and 50 million by 2045. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 27/11/2006 righe 32 parole 346)
