Brasilia (Agenzia Fides) - The annual Evangelisation Campaign 2006 will start on 26 November Feast of Christ the King, and close on the third Sunday of Advent 17 December with a nation-wide special collection. In line with CELAM 5 to be held in Aparecida in May 2007, the Church in Brazil chose as its campaign theme Disciples and Missionaries. A special Mass on Sunday 26 November in the National Basilica of Aparecida to open the Campaign will be broadcast on national TV.
The annual Evangelisation Campaign is an initiative of the Brazilian Bishops’ Conference CNBB to increase awareness among Catholics of the duty to support the missionary work of the Church as well as pastoral activities at home. The collection is divided as follows 45 per cent to the dioceses, 20 per cent to CNBB Regions and 35 per cent to CNBB national. The CNBB uses these funds to subsidies for various campaigns (25 per cent), to support small evangelisation projects all over the country (15 per cent) and for the activity of Bishops’ Conference commissions and general secretariats (60 per cent).
