AMERICA/URUGUAY - On the feast of the Patroness of Uruguay the President of the Bishops’ Conference urges the people to pray for the country, the governors and those responsible for managing public affairs

Florida (Agenzia Fides) - "The hour has come for Uruguayans to recognise one another as brothers and sisters. Our people need to look at one another in a different light" said Bishop Pablo Galimberti, president of the Uruguayan Catholic Bishops’ Conference in a Letter to invite people to take part in the national pilgrimage to the shrine of Our Lady of Trentatre, the patroness of the nation on 12 November. On this occasion he stressed the need to pray especially "for our country, our governors, those responsible for managing public affaire, and those who in one way or another need peace and forgiveness but cannot put it into words".
The main event will be 10am open air Mass on 12 November in the Piazza Principal, presided by Bishop Pablo Galimberti and concelebrated by the Bishops of Uruguay coinciding with Plenary Assembly of the Bishops’ Conference. In fact from 8-15 November the Bishops are in plenary assembly to discuss various matters including renewal of Conference posts, presentation of Uruguay’s contribution to the 5th General Conference of the Council of Latin American Bishops’ Conferences (CELAM) (Brazil May 2007) , assess pastoral plan 2001-2006 and identify pastoral priorities for 2007.
