AMERICA/COSTA RICA - “Missionaries of Christ that all may have life in Him”: Mission Sunday 2006 to strengthen conviction that every true disciple must be missionary

San Jose (Agenzia Fides) - Missionaries of Christ that all may have life in Him” is the theme chosen for Mission Sunday activity this year in Costa Rica “in keeping with the spirit which is guiding the Church in Latin America’s reflection on what it means to be “disciples and missionaries of Jesus Christ so that our countries may have life in Him" Fides was told by National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Costa Rica, Fr Manuel Peña. "With this slogan - Fr Pena explained - we hope to strengthen conviction that every true disciple must be a missionary and that just as there can be no separation between faith and life, so too discipleship and mission cannot be separated ".
Once again this year the national PMS office distributed a Mission Sunday leaflet containing the Pope’s message, suggestions for weekly catechesis and animation of adults and children and mission liturgies in the month of October, Hours of Adoration, formula of Mass for Evangelisation.
Each theme for catechesis is developed as follows: greeting and presentation, prayer, story to share or theme for reflection, Word of God, meditation, concrete application of the Word of life. The weekly themes are:
Week 1 dedicated to prayer: for adults "Missionaries Christ, Missionaries Church; for children "Our Baptism makes us missionaries of Christ. In this week priests and religious are called to offer prayers and sacrifices and economic offerings for Mission Sunday.
Week 2 dedicated to sacrifice: for adults "Charity soul of Mission"; for children "Love of God urges us to mission ". In this week children and young people offer prayers and sacrifices and economic offerings for Mission Sunday.
Week 3: dedicated to mission collections: adults “Being and forming missionaries of Christ”; children e "Children help with missionary activity in the world ". The whole people of God is called in this week to offer prayers and sacrifices and economic offerings for Mission Sunday.
Week 4 - dedicated to thanksgiving: adults "We are missionaries for the world today: mission is a duty for all"; for children “With Mary we pray for the missions ". In this week, the elderly, the sick and the collaborators with the Pontifical Society of St Peter Apostle are asked offer prayers and sacrifices and economic offerings for Mission Sunday.
