AMERICA/ECUADOR - Pro-life Mobilisation: against New Health Code which promotes abortion, bans objection of conscience and imposes sexual education without values and which excludes parents

Tuesday, 10 October 2006

Guayaquil (Agenzia Fides) - “Azione Pro-Vida” and the network of organisations Pro-Life and Pro-Family have launched a campaign to defend life and to protest against a new Health Code which promotes abortion, the abortion pill, and bans objection of conscience on the part of medical staff who refuse to carry out abortion.
Tomorrow 11 October there will be a “Pro-vida defends your children” event at Parco Centenario in Guayaquil. Thursday 12 October will be a "Day to defend human and constitutional Rights" involving young people who will march to Congress to call for respect for their rights; in the afternoon families will gather in front of Congress in a protest demonstration.
The Protest March on 11 October is to express dissent with some aspects of the new law: "doctors are obliged to perform abortions (Art 30, 32), abortion pill sold as ‘emergency contraceptive’ (Art. 32), compulsory sexual education without values, with texts which deform human sexuality with the exclusion of participation of parents ( Art. 28)". The organisers have asked people to send messages to the President of Ecuador to express total dissent and rejection of this project which attacks life, right to freedom of conscience, right to freedom of education and parents rights.
