Seoul (Fides Service) – “The Word of God must be given central place in the Church’s mission and youth must be helped to take major role in missionary commitment” said Father Joseph Kyeong Kap-ryong at the start of October, the month of mission. Speaking to Fides Service Father Joseph Kyeong Kap-ryong, president of the Korean Bishops Sacred Scripture Commission, said: “this is the month of evangelisation” and he called on all Catholics, laity and young people in particular to play an active part in the Church’s missionary work without fear aware that they bearers of a message from God.
“The task of missionary is not only for clergy and religious it is the responsibility of the entire people of God, said Father Kap-ryong Jesus Christ is the model missionary for every Christian. Communion and love of God in the Trinity are the source of energy for mission. God’s mercy and love incarnate in Jesus Christ are its foundation”.
Father Kap-ryong stressed the important role of the laity in evangelisation: “Christians must strive to live the Gospel of charity and to bear witness to God’s love and presence in the world today. Especially in this missionary month of October it is important to promote initiatives for evangelisation at all levels: in parishes, diocese, movements and associations”.
