AMERICA/ARGENTINA - “Mother, we need to live as brothers and sisters”: this year’s Youth pilgrimage to Our Lady of Luján will be marked by “pro-life gesture”

Buenos Aires (Agenzia Fides) - “Mother we need to live as brothers and sisters” is the slogan of the 32nd Youth Pilgrimage to the Basilica of Our Lady of Lujan (60 km from the capital Buenos Aires) (30 September - 1 October). The pilgrimage will start on Saturday at 11.30am when the image of Our Lady will be brought out of the Shrine of San Cayetano. Mass on Sunday 1 October at 7pm will be presided by the archbishop of Buenos Aires, Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, and concelebrated by the Bishops of the Buenos Aires region and numerous priests. The Cardinal has asked for special Masses to be celebrated in every parish in honour of Our Lady of Luján. For Saturday 30 September at Luján Basilica for 5pm Mass the image of Our Lady of Luján will be moved to a position nearer the faithful.
During the pilgrimage the young people will make a gesture pro-life lighting a candle, holding one minute silence and then praying a decade of the Rosary "for victims of violence” and they will promise keep the flame burning to defend life from conception to natural death. The pilgrimage organisers have urged all the local people to join in the initiative by lighting a candle for life and to pray in unity with the young pilgrims .
