Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) - A Pro-family and Pro-life Parade through the streets of Mexico City on Sunday 24 September will mark the closing of the country’s annual two week Pro Life Campaign promoted by the Pro-Life Movement of Mexico. This year’s campaign with the theme “Your Family Deserves the Best” started on 10 September with a Mass in Mexico City cathedral presided by Cardinal Juan Sandoval Íñiguez, Archbishop of Guadalajara. The aim of the annual campaign is to increase awareness of problems experienced by families, including break-up of the family and domestic violence, tragedies which lead many children and young people to commit suicide.
The Campaign aims to strengthen society and families and to identify and remove the causes of the tragedy of child suicides. Last year 25,000 people took part in the campaign and figures regarding cases of suicides decreased by 13%, a result which encouraged the organisers to continue their work to sustain families. Presenting this year’s campaign Sr Bertha López Chávez, general coordinator of the Pro-Life Movement in Mexico, called on the whole of society to make a united effort, “with the power of love and truth”.
The Pro Life Campaign programme includes a congress on the topic The Family Pro-Life with the power of love and truth on 21 and 22 September; the presentation of John Paul II Family Award on 22 September; Expo-Life - Expo-Family, 23 September, on various services offered to help families deal with problems of today.
