Ahmedabad (Agenzia Fides) - In the western Indian state of Gujarat, often the scene of Hindu religious nationalism, the Jesuit Fathers are offering a special Course in Communications for young people of all religions dedicated to the great Spanish missionary saint St Francis Xavier.
The 12 month course will be held at St. Xavier College, in the state capital city Ahmedabad. A group of 30 students have enrolled for this first year of professional, theoretical and practical training as well as formation in values and morals and deontology, necessary for operating in the field of communications in order to promote a spirit of harmony and tolerance.
The Course, which has the approval of the University of Gujarat and the state government, is open to students of all cultures and religions from whom it will be an opportunity to reflect on the universal values of freedom of expression, respect for the opinions of others, love for the truth.
Welcoming the new students Jesuit Fr. Paul Varghese congratulated them for choosing to study journalism: “If you look at the biographies of the important people in the history of humanity you will note that many began their career as a journalist. In the modern world it is indispensable to know how to communicate. Whatever your path in the future what you learn during this course will be most useful”.
