VATICAN - OCTOBER THE MONTH OF MISSION OPENS WITH THE CANONISATION NEXT SUNDAY OF THREE IMPORTANT EUROPEAN MISSIONARIES DANIELE COMBONI, ARNOLD JANSSEN AND JOSEF FREINADEMETZ

Vatican City (Fides Service) On Sunday 5 October at 10am in St Peter’s Square Pope John Paul II will preside Mass during which he will canonise DANIELE COMBONI 1831 –1881 founder of the Comboni Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, ARNOLD JANSSEN founder of the Society of the Divine Word Missionaries, the Missionary Sister Servants of the Holy Spirit, and the Sister Servants of the Holy Spirit of Perpetual Adoration and JOSEF FREINADEMETZ 1852-1908 missionary of the Divine Word Society.
In the notice issued for the occasion, the Office for the Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff reads: “in view of the forthcoming World Mission Sunday the Church holds up to the attention of the faithful three new Saints who devoted their lives to proclaiming the Gospel of salvation to the far corners of the earth”.
