ASIA/TAIWAN - “One in Mind, Heart and Spirit” Summer camp for young people of 6 different Asian countries and regions

Tuesday, 5 September 2006

Tai Pei (Agenzia Fides) - “One in Mind, Heart and Spirit” was the theme of the 11th Joint Asian Camp CHOICE held at the convent of the Missionary Sister of Providence in the archdiocese of Tai Pei from 23 to 27 August. The diocesan bulletin Christian Life Weekly reported that about 80 young people from 6 different countries and regions: Malaysia (22), Singapore (10), Indonesia (17), Hong Kong (4), Macao (7) and Taiwan (18) engaged in five days of study, sharing and collaboration, in a spirit of “understanding, love and service”.
Bishop James Liu, auxiliary of Tai Pei, who presided the opening Mass, encouraged the young participants to strive to live the faith more deeply. On the second day Rev Daniele from Indonesia gave a spiritual reflection on the Camp theme “Jesus’ total sacrifice on the Cross”: mission and motivation; reflection on challenges and temptations; “Christ’s weakness on the Cross” and voices calling him to come down from the Cross; revealing God’s glory by means of humble and sincere service. Day three was dedicated to discussion and sharing. At the end of the meeting the participants elected a new CHOICE leadership. The closing prayer and blessing was led by Archbishop Joseph Ti Kang emeritus of Tai Pei, and the young people prayed the Lord to strengthen their faith and to make them one in heart and mind on the journey to the Kingdom of God.
The aim of CHOICE camps, held every two years, is to help young Asian Catholics grow in faith and live the faith in daily life as a journey towards eternal life. Hosting region Taiwan overcame the problem of many different languages brilliantly: “Languages are not a problem, a smile says many things and we understood one another perfectly” the organisers said.
