AMERICA/ARGENTINA - "Becoming disciples to be missionaries": 10 September 1st Buenos Aires Regional Pastoral Meeting to revitalise missionary spirit in discipleship of Christ

Friday, 1 September 2006

Buenos Aires (Agenzia Fides) - Sunday 10 September in the parish church of Santa Maria of Betania in Buenos Aires, there will be the 1st Buenos Aires Regional Pastoral Meeting on the theme "Becoming disciples to be missionaries". The goal of the meeting is to revitalise missionary spirit in the diocese and the pastoral region as part of following Jesus Christ. More specific gaols include strengthening diocesan mission teams and fostering a deeper sense of communion and mission at diocesan and regional level. Participants will reflect on missionary animation of children and adolescents, missionary groups, missionary families, missionary sick and elderly people, permanent parish missions, mission animation and formation.
There will be two conferences: "Community disciple of Jesus" and "Missionary Community for Humanity" and various mission testimonials. This regional meeting was prepared by previous minor meetings to examine and discuss the CELAM 5 basic document. The first preparatory meeting reflected on the evangelising presence in the history of the diocese, highlighting objectives and lights and shadows of programmes of diocesan missionary pastoral. The second preparatory meeting outlined a vision of the world today, lights and shadows, suffering and hopes of the countries of Latin America, to try to find answers to these challenges and identify the expectations of the world with regard God and the Church. The third preparatory meeting examined certain sections of the CELAM document: "Other challenges to the life and mission of the Church" and "Faces of inhuman poverty move us and challenge us".
