EUROPE/ITALY - Cardinal Secretary of State, Tarcisio Bertone to preside inauguration of new Academic Year at Pontifical Salesian University

Rome (Agenzia Fides) - The Pontifical Salesian University is preparing to begin its activity for the academic year 2006-2007. At present the Faculty of Christian and Classical Letters is offering courses in Italian, Latin and Greek set to end by 22 September. Regular courses will start on 5 October.
On 10 October the Academic Year will open with a concelebration of Mass at the parish church of Santa Maria della Speranza at 9.15am presided by Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, secretary of state. This will be followed by an inaugural academic act in the University’s Paul VI Hall with a prolusion by the grand chancellor, Rev Pascual Chávez, rector major of the Salesians of Don Bosco, titled: “At the service of the truth. Identity, mission and project of the Pontifical Salesian University”. The musical part of both events has been entrusted to the Inter-University Choir of Rome, conducted by Maestro Massimo Palombella accompanied by Maestro Valentino Miserachs at the organ. During the academic act, which will open with an introductory talk by the rector Prof. Don Mario Toso, awards will be presented to students of merit.
Pontifical Salesian University, was first opened as the “Don Bosco University for young people” in May 1940 in Turin. In September 1965 it moved to Rome.
