ASIA/HONG KONG - Day for Evangelisation and Prayer: St Benedict’s Catholic Parish celebrates patron saint

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) - St Benedict Catholic Parish in Hong Kong held a special day to honour its patron saint on 16 July with new commitment for mission and evangelisation and a Religious Book Fair. According to the diocesan bulletin Kong Ko Bao the Day was one of joy, devotion and Benedictine spirituality and moments of prayerful silence. The programme began with a special Mass presided by vicar general Mgr Domenico Chan and concelebrated by parish priest Rev Francis Lau and other priests. There followed the inauguration of a Religious Book Fair and a session of missionary mobilisation, an afternoon meeting of spirituality and community prayer and adoration and at the end a parish community supper.
The spiritual reflection was given on the theme Christian Humility by Yip Hing Wah William who said: “Christian humility recognises that we are creatures and God is the Creator from whom everything comes”. Vespers and adoration were followed by Community supper with 600 parishioners. Fr Lau told Kong Ko Bao: “Next year we will mark our 20th anniversary and the theme will be the Family in keeping with the diocese which has said next year will be the Year of the Family.”
Fr Lau, first came to the parish in 2000. He has been a diocesan priest since 1973 and was one of the first students of Holy Spirit Seminary to be ordained. The parish has an active parish council and a number of groups: Our Lady of the Rosary Women’s Group, Eucharist Group, St Joseph Group, Vincent de Paul group, youth group and hospital pastoral care group.
