AFRICA/NIGERIA - Open at last St. George's Clinic in Ngugo, six beds and even a small operating theatre

Tuesday, 25 July 2006

Rome (Agenzia Fides) - Recently a new Catholic medical clinic with six emergency beds and a small operating theatre was opened in Ngugo in Nigeria. St. George's Clinic is the fruit of an Italian initiative of collaboration between Busto Arsizio Hospital in Varese, the parish of Crenna and a non profit organisation active in the health and social field ACISS all in northern Italy.
Nigerian project referent Fr Benedict Oparaugo said the initiative of solidarity “Progetto Nigeria” goes ahead with success.
St. George's Clinic has two sections one for general medicine and ‘minor surgery’ with 6 emergency beds, a small operating theatre and a medical laboratory. The other section offers mother/child care and hygiene and is named after Chinonye a little girl killed in the tragic Biafra war.
The commitment of three different realities in a European country with one same goal to offer tangible assistance to an African country in a state of healthcare emergency is bearing fruit. (AP) (25/7/2006 Agenzia Fides; Righe:25 Parole:275)
