Monday, 24 July 2006

Beirut (Agenzia Fides) - Catholics in Lebanon are helping to assist some of the hundreds of thousands of families forced to flee their homes to escape the bombing Brother Georges Absi, Superior in Lebanon community of the Brothers of Christian Schools told Fides. “Why do the people of Lebanon always have to suffer the consequences of the conflict? He asks, adding “We urge those responsible to reach a cease fire agreement and find ways to resolve the difficulties”.
“Our Brothers about thirty - says Fr. Georges - have moved out of Beirut to a community House in the hills. Whereas our schools closed for holidays have cancelled Summer camps and other activities to offer shelter to refugees. It is not easy to provide assistance in these conditions. We are waiting and praying for a cease fire. We ask why should so many innocent people be made to suffer. We pray the Lord will grant the gift of peace and illuminate the minds of political leaders who hold in their hands the destiny of peoples”. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 24/7/2006 righe 25 parole 259)
