AFRICA/GHANA - Conference on the Liturgy in Africa and Madagascar opens tomorrow

Accra (Agenzia Fides)- A Conference on the Liturgy in Africa promoted by the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments and the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Ghana will open tomorrow 5 July in Kumasi, Ghana.
A statement issued by the Congregation says “the purpose of the Conference is to assess, encourage and promote liturgical life in Africa e Madagascar”. The Conference will focus on four main topics: the development of liturgical life in Africa; liturgical formation; translation of liturgical books in various African languages; inculturation of the liturgy.
Participants will include the superiors of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, African born Congregation members and advisers, the president of the Symposium of the Bishops’ Conferences of Africa and Madagascar), the president of the Commission for Liturgy of the CERAO (Regional Bishops Conference of French-speaking West Africa), the apostolic nuncio to Ghana, bishops, clergy and men and women religious.
The Conference will be opened by Archbishop Albert Malcom Ranjith Patabendige Don, secretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.
The President of Ghana, John Ayeykum Kufor, will make an official visit to the Conference venue in Kumasi and the participants will be received by His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, King of Ashanti Pralaca.
