ASIA/MALAYSIA-SINGAPORE-BRUNEI - National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 12 May 2006 Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, then prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples, appointed national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Malaysia-Singapore-Brunei for a five year term (2006-2011) Rev Velangani Michael Arokiasamy, of the archdiocesan clergy of Kuala Lumpur.
The new director is 49 years old and has been a priest for 13 years. He has a Masters in Missiology from St. Peter’s Pontifical Institute in Bangalore, India. He has worked in various parishes and is at present parish priest at Our Lady of Fatima parish in Banting. He is involved in Catholic Charismatic movement and catechetical formation. (S.L.)
