Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) - “Once we answer the Lord’s call with perseverance we will reach our goal, because the Lord has prepared a banquet for those who love Him” said seminarian Ye Bao Lin one of two deacons to be ordained on July 1 at Hong Kong Catholic cathedral. The other seminarian Wu Yong Hong will serve as a permanent deacon. According to the Hong Kong diocesan bulletin Kong Ko Bao the event is important in the modern technological society of Hong Kong where vocations are scarce.
Ye, aged 34 who hopes to become a priest told the other students of his experience: “answering the Lord’s call means continual searching for his will for us”. Born in Hong Kong and baptised at the age of 13, Ye studied for two separate periods at Holy Spirit Seminary Hong Kong, in 1996 and in 2001. “The two periods - he said - were like one… one path the respond to the Lord’ call ”. He encouraged his follow students to always have hope and confidence in the Lord.
Wu Yong Hong aged 56, who will remain a permanent deacon, married in 1975 and has a son. During the years of his intense Christian life seeing the crisis of marriage in society he studied formation and aspects of Christian marriage and then became a family pastoral worker and animator of courses in preparation for marriage. While on a pilgrimage in 2000 he heard that the diocesan spiritual director was looking for permanent deacons. After careful reflection in 2002 he applied and was accepted as a candidate to become a deacon. Sharing his experience he said: “The path of formation is a period of joy and fear. Joy for the gift God has granted and fear because one feels unworthy of this immense gift. Therefore I strive to be a better Christian and accept whatever mandate the Lord sends, following the path Jesus has reserved for me”. (Agenzia Fides 22/06/2006 Righe: 34 Parole: 374)
