Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) - Brother He Jin Tang, a member of the Ecumenical Taizé Community, recently organised a prayer meeting for young Christian workers in Hong Kong to encourage them to find more time for prayer and to pray more often with Christians of different confessions. The diocesan bulletin Kong Ko Bao reported that several hundred young workers attended the “Prayer for China and the Church” in the Catholic Cathedral led by Brother He Jin Tang of Hong Kong. Brother He Jin first of all explained the Taize method of prayer and he shared his experience in mainland China. He also encouraged the participants to voice their own prayer and to commit themselves to praying often for the Church in China and the universal Church.
The Ecumenical Community of Taize was founded in France in 1940 by Frere Roger assassinated last year by a mentally deranged person on 16 August. Today it has about 100 brother members from 25 different countries. Frere Roger was known to Hong Kong Christians and Taize prayer is widely used in Hong Kong because he visited the city some ten years ago. There was deep grief among at his sudden and unexpected death. (Agenzia Fides 21/06/2006 Righe: 28 Parole: 316)
