ASIA/IRAQ - 70 children flown from Kurdistan Iraq to Italy for hospital treatment

Rome (Agenzia Fides) - A group of Iraqi children are being flown to Italy for hospital treatment From Erbil, Kurdish region of Iraq 70 children seriously ill will be taken to hospitals in Rome and Milan.
The news was announced by the Fondazione Istituto Mediterraneo di Ematologia (Ime). A path which will pass also through the hospitals of Rome and the Lazio Region: 6 children will be admitted to Policlinic at Tor Vergata, 4 at the Rome Policlinic, 2 at San Giovanni, 6 at San Camillo and 5 children with a heart condition at the Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital.
Two flights will bring the children to Italy and with them 20 doctors who have signed up for refresher and specialisation courses.
Fondazione IME was born to tackle, after excellent results reached in Italy, dramatic emergencies represented in many countries by leukaemia and thalassemia. At the moment it is extending its action range and planing more programmes in mother/child health.
These flights from Erbil, IME affirms, mark the beginning of treatment for children in need, and also the beginning of a an important project of cooperation two countries and peoples convinced that peace and harmony are built with shared work and commitment.
