AMERICA/COLOMBIA - Buga National Pilgrimage 2006, young people start preparation for 23rd World Youth Day in Australia

Tuesday, 20 June 2006

Buga (Agenzia Fides) - The National Buga Pilgrimage 2006 in Colombia 30 June to 3 July, will be an opportunity for young people to come together from all over the country to experience a time of communion and share proposals for building the Kingdom of God. The main reason is to celebrate the 21st Youth Day with the theme “Your Word is Light for my Path”, and to start a journey of preparation for the 23rd World Youth Day in Sydney, Australia 2008.
The organisers say the modern day presents major challenges to the Church especially with regard to Youth Pastoral and calls for initiatives to meet the needs of young people in the field of formation to help them grow in the faith. It is urgent to bring the young people together to help them realise they are the Church, the future of the Church and of society and in view of this responsibility they need adequate formation.
The pilgrimage is for young people aged 15 to 30 already active in the field of youth pastoral and activities with young people. About 60 young people from each diocese are expected to take part. Besides prayers and catechesis and penitential liturgy with individual confession, the pilgrimage will include cultural events, and recreational activities and a stop at the Shrine of the Lord of Miracles. When it reaches Buga the pilgrimage will end with the closing Mass. (R.G.) (Agenzia Fides 20/6/2006; righe 20, parole 265
