Sonson-Rionegro (Agenzia Fides) - Sonson-Rionegro diocese in Colombia is preparing to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2007, we are informed by Mgr. Iván Cadavid head of diocesan pastoral care. To prepare well for this important event the diocese has launched this year 2006 a Diocesan Mission which is proving most successful. The theme of the Mission is “Jesus Christ is Lord”. Parish teams of priests, religious and lay persons are visiting homes and social institutions to offer explicit message of adhesion to Jesus Christ. This in the framework of the diocesan pastoral plan 2006-2010 which started precisely with the Diocesan Mission. The principal goal is to encourage people to form small communities in order be more vitally committed to Christ and to live the faith more deeply, as a path to greater active participation in the Church.
Sonson-Rionegro diocese was created by Pope Pius XII in 1957 in the eastern region of the Department of Antioch in Colombia, suffragan of the archdiocese of Medellin. It has always had abundant vocations to the priesthood and the religious life in an environment where the Christian family has always played an important role.
