EUROPE/ALBANIA - Two thousand Catholic, Orthodox and Muslim children take part in Holy Childhood festivities in Tirana

Friday, 9 June 2006

Tirana (Agenzia Fides) - On Saturday 3 June at least 2,000 Catholic, Orthodox and Muslim children gathered in central Tirana for a party to mark the end of the school year. The children came from schools all over Albania accompanied by their teachers. A special gift was waiting for them: a missionary pen produced for the event thanks to commitment by Fr Antonio Sciarra - an Italian missionary involved in animation of children - and the collaboration of the national Holy Childhood Office Italy which gave permission to use the same sort of missionary pens adopted by the PMS in Italy three years ago. Special guests at the event included prominent Albanian political leaders and an Italian delegation of children members of Le Matite Colorate choir (Coloured Pencils Choir) led by Italian national PMS secretary Stefania Bascapé. The party closed with a parade to Albania’s national monument to harmony among peoples and religions known as the Bell of Peace where the participants commemorated Albanian born Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta who used to say “I am but a little pencil in the hands of God”.
