AMERICA/CILE - 2nd Conference on Hispanic-American Catholics and Public Life: the light of the Gospel must illuminate private and public life

Santiago (Agenzia Fides) - The 2nd Conference on Hispanic-American Catholics and Public Life organised by San Tommaso University in Chile will be held 8 and 9 June. The 1st Conference held in 2005 was attended by over 1,000 people and there were 40 speakers. The aim of the Conference is to offer Catholics the opportunity to reflect how the light of the Gospel can be shed not only on private life, but also on public life. The Conference will be an opportunity for members of different church realities to share and enrich their experience of faith in its authenticity.
The main conferences will focus on: “Catholics and public Life in Latin America”; “What good is faith”; “Intolerance of Freedom”; “Faith: a public or private matter”. Six discussion groups will focus on connected subjects: the Religious, living faith at work, Catholic universities, youth, Christian humanism. Archbishop Aldo Cavalli Apostolic nuncio to Chile will take part and Cardinal Francisco Javier Errazuriz Ossa will preside a Mass on 9 June at the church of St Lawrence.
Participants at the 2nd Conference on Hispanic-American Catholics and Public Life will include guests from Chile, Spain, Italy, Holland, Uruguay and Mexico. Speakers will be: Alfonso Coronel de Palma, president San Pablo CEU, Spain; Rafael Alvira, director of the Istituto Impresa ed Umanesimo, University of Navarra, Spain; Prof. Guzmán Carriquiry, under-secretary of the Pontifical Council for the Laity; Peter Koslowski, economist, philosopher and professor at the University of Amsterdam, Holland; Attilio Tamburrini, director of the Italian section of Aid to the Church in Need; Luis Losada, editor of Catholic newspaper Alba, Spain; Lydia Jiménez, general directress of the Crusades of Santa María.
