Cang Zhou (Agenzia Fides) - “You are taking your vows on the feast of the Visitation which means you must take Our Lady as your model for life and mission, imitating her goodness, humility and obedience. At the Crucifixion everyone fled but Mary the Mother of Jesus remained at the foot of the cross” said Bishop Li Lian Gui of Xian Xian diocese (today Cang Zhou) during Mass for the profession of 19 Missionaries of Mary Mediatrix of Souls in Purgatory on 31 May the feast of the Visitation in the presence family and friends. Also present the former Bishop Liu Ding Han and Bishop Luke Liu emeritus of Hsin Chu diocese. No less than 53 priests concelebrated. In his homily the Bishop encouraged the sisters to imitate Mary, he said “be faithful to the teaching of the Lord and to serve others with love, and fulfil the duty to share in the evangelising mission of the Church”.
The Missionaries of Mary Mediatrix of Souls in Purgatory teach catechism and work at the Bishops’ House and in local hospitals and clinics. They are known as “angels of lepers and people with AIDS”. The congregation, which has always insisted on proper formation, today has 260 nuns and 32 novices. Superior General Sister Liu Su-Ping said: “Local vocations are less than before but we still give great importance to formation and have even raised the requisites for entering. We accept between 10 and 12 novices every year. Our mission is to serve and love the poor with the love of Christ”. (Agenzia Fides 05/06/2006 Righe: 30 Parole: 340)
