Abidjan (Agenzia Fides)- “Hope for Children” is a new non profit organisation in aid of children in Côte d'Ivoire
Côte d'Ivoire is one of Africa’s richer countries but because of instability and civil war the people live in poverty without even basic social services. Primary schools in the north and west of the country were closed leaving hundreds of children without instruction and many hospitals have had to cut service due scarcity of staff and medicines.
The aim of the NGO is to help orphans, disabled children sick children and street children and those living in poorest communities by providing schooling, food, water and healthcare. “Hope for Children” wants to improve the lives of as many children as possible. Its activities include reducing the state of social exclusion which isolates many children in developing countries all over the world.
According to UNICEF, more than 640 million children in the world have inadequate housing, 90 million do not eat properly, 400 million are denied access to clean water, 500 million have no healthcare, 140 million do not go to school, over 300 million lack proper schooling. Most of these children live in developing countries and need material, financial assistance and human resources. (AP) (31/5/2006 Agenzia Fides; Righe:23; Parole:275)
