AMERICA/PERU - “With Jesus Missionary ...we want to be the light of the world”: thousands of children take part in Holy Childhood Day in Peru 27 and 28 May

Lima (Agenzia Fides) - Thousands of children all over Peru will be taking part this weekend 27 and 28 May in Holy Childhood Day. “With Jesus Missionary ...we want to be the light of the world” is this year’s theme for the annual event animated by the Pontifical Mission Societies in Peru for which dioceses all over the country organise special initiatives to involve girls and boys members of the Pontifical Mission Society Holy Childhood.
In Lima on Saturday morning La Salle School will host a meeting for parish and school children who will take part in prayers, songs, games and reflection on the mission to help children in need. The northern archdiocese of Trujillo on Sunday 28 has organised a special Mass at the cathedral for Holy Childhood children and animators. After the mass they will take part in a parade with special costumes and banners to call other children to be missionaries. Callao diocese has organised also on Sunday a Festival at Concha de Chucuito Park at La Punta. The day will start at 8.30am with reflection on the significance of Holy Childhood and the presentation of its activity in the diocese. There will be a special Mass for children presided by Bishop Miguel Irizar at 10.30. The day will include spectacles performed by the pupils of various schools the diocese of Callao. In the Apostolic Vicariate of Pucallpa there will be a Holy Childhood Meeting on Sunday. Local sources say “the Day offers adult an opportunity to discover how the Holy Spirit works and calls through children”. A special presence will be that of members of the Movement of Adolescents and Children of Christian Workers MANTHOC.
