ASIA/TAIWAN - “Welcome Unborn Child!”: diocesan chancellor buys advertisement space to protect life, foster public awareness and help for the family

Hsin Chu (Fides Service) - “Welcome Unborn Child!” is the title of an advertisement seen in the past few days in the Hsin Chu newspaper in Taiwan. The advertisement was put in by Mgr Peter Chang, chancellor of Hsin Chu diocese concerned for the possible approval of a law to make abortion in Taiwan easier. He decided that an advertisement would be a good means to increase public awareness and mobilise the Christian community. Mgr. Chang organised a meeting with the same title “Welcome Unborn Child!” following the principle “respect and protect the life of the unborn child”. Elderly Mgr Changha said: “I know that opinions vary in a pluralistic society. But I hold firmly to mine. When a child dies before it is born it is sad enough, but imagine the sadness caused by 400,000 legal abortions every year in Taiwan”. The priest called on all men and women of good will to support a plan for education to life in five stages: educate young people to respect the relationship between man and woman and the immense value of human life; urge the government to train counsellors on the theme of life; help families in difficulty to care for their children; help and promote adoption; offer families help and services.
