AMERICA - Discuss and Study Catholic identity and mission in the world of Television: Latin American Conference on Catholic Television opens today

Bogota (Agenzia Fides) - Directors and producers of Catholic television programmes from more than 20 different countries of Latin America and the Caribbean are meeting in Medellin, Colombia, for the Latin American Conference on Catholic Television which opens today 22 May and will close on 25 May (see Fides 7 April 2006). The Conference, organised by the Department for Communications of the Council of Latin American Bishops’ Conferences CELAM, is an initiative of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications. The Conference will discuss Catholic identity and mission in the world of television in the variety of services and initiatives present in Latin America as well as promote ways and means to foster communion and communication and make space for sharing of television products. It also intends to create a space for reflection and research on a shared horizon for Catholic television, the continent and the world .
The main themes on which the Conference will focus include: television and the Catholic world; management and sustainability of a TV channel; organisation and challenges; International Catholic Television Conference in Madrid, Spain 10-12 October 2006 convoked by the Pontifical Council for Social Communications. The Conference will have three major dimensions: conference by experts on the different themes, sharing of local experience all over the continent and commitment to identify and implement resolutions.
