Florianopolis (Agenzia Fides) - “We come from of the Congress filled with missionary spirit to say to everyone Come and See!” we read in a final Letter addressed to Catholics in Brazil to confirm faith in the Eucharist. The letter was made public at the end of the 15th National Eucharistic Congress, celebrated 18-21 May in the archdiocese of di Florianópolis on the theme “He is with us” and the slogan “come and see”.
The first part of the letter confirms faith in the Eucharist: “We believe in the Eucharist source and summit of evangelisation of individuals, communities and societies; we believe the Eucharist promotes life, dignity, freedom of every person; we believe the Eucharist renews our communities; we believe the Eucharist transforms our societies and its serious social problems such as unemployment, corruption, violence, criminality and drug trafficking”.
“In the Eucharist - the Letter reads - we live a spirituality of communion which renews communities, parishes, vocations, bishops, movements. In the Eucharist we are similar to the early Christian communities, one in heart and mind, sharing everything so no one is in need”. We read in the Letter “we realise our mission to build a society of justice and equality, where the poor, the Lord’s favourites are given the first place”.
The participants also mention Congress resolutions: make holy Sunday the Lord’s Day, in order to nourish personal, family, community and social spirituality; in each community set aside one day a week for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament; render communities more “eucharistic”, visiting families, forming groups for prayer, Bible Study, charity work to help the poor, and act in every sector of society with the power of the Eucharist. “We will strive - they conclude - to make the experience we have lived here in the presence of the Lord a daily reality in our communities".
