AMERICA/ARGENTINA - Evangelising university culture, young people points of reference and witnesses to the faith for fellow students: Mar de Plata launches 1st University Mission

Tuesday, 16 May 2006

Mar de Plata (Fides Service) - University pastoral in Mar de Plata has organised its 1st University Mission, we are told by D. Ezequiel E. Kseim, university pastoral advisor and Analía E. Benítez, head of University Pastoral. The aim of the mission 8-18 May is to inform students of university pastoral activities and invite them to participate. The organisers say when the students come to the meetings and start a path of formation and grow in the faith with prayer and sacramental Communion, “we move towards our main goal, to evangelise university culture”. This is the purpose of the 1st University Mission.
During the mission, in free time between lectures and studies, students in all the different faculties at Università Nazionale di Mar de Plata, CAECE private University and the Pablo VI Institute of Formation encounter other students to witness to the faith and them to take part in a University Retreat at Villa Marista di Mar de Plata 9 - 11 June organised by University Pastoral. Students are encouraged to go on mission among their own Faculty companions and become for them points of reference and witnesses to the faith. The culminating moment of the mission will be a special Mass at 7pm on 19 May presided by the Bishop Juan Alberto Puiggari, at the parish of St John the Baptist.
University Pastoral started in Mar de Plata in 2004. It has its own statute approved by the Bishop and it is a movement whose members are aged 18 to 30 years. Its main goals include: carry the Catholic faith to the university world in order to humanise the university and evangelise it by means of a committed presence; increase knowledge about the Church and what it means to be Catholic, to share the reasons for faith and illuminate professional formation with the values of the Gospel.
