AFRICA/MAURITIUS - Resignation and appointment of Bishop of Port-Louis

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Francis has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the Diocese of Port-Louis (Mauritius) presented by His Eminence Cardinal Maurice Piat, C.S.Sp. The Holy Father has appointed the Reverand Jean Michaël Durhône, of the clergy of Port-Louis, currently Secretary of the Episcopal Conference of the Indian Ocean Islands, as bishop of the same diocese.
His Exc. Msgr. Jean Michaël Durhône was born on June 5, 1973 in Vacoas-Phoenix, in the diocese of Port-Louis (Mauritius). After completing his studies in Philosophy and Theology at the Seminary des Pays-de-la-Loire in Nantes (France), he was ordained a priest on August 7, 2005 for the Diocese of Port-Louis.
He has held the following offices and carried out further studies: Vicar of Saint Louis Cathedral, Port-Louis (2005-2010); Diocesan chaplain of the Young Christian Workers Movement (J.O.C.) (2006-2010); Licentiate in moral theology, pastoral care and catechesis at the Center International de Formation en Catéchèse et Pastorale "Lumen Vitae" in Namur, Belgium (2010-2012); since 2012, Diocesan Head of Catechesis; Parish vicar of Sainte-Hélène, Curepipe, (2012-2015) and of Saint-Sauveur, Bambous (2015-2020); Parish priest of Notre Dame de la Visitation, Vacoas-Phoenix (2015); since 2019, Secretary of the Episcopal Conference (C.E.D.O.I.); since 2021, Diocesan Head of Youth Ministry.
