Yaoundé (Agenzia Fides) - "We learned with pain of the heinous murder in Obala of Father Olivier Ntsa Ebodé, priest of a separated Christian community", says Msgr. Sosthène Léopold Bayemi Matjei, bishop of Obala, in a message of condolence for the murder of Father Olivier Ntsa Ebodé, priest of the so-called Gallican Catholic "Church" (see Fides, 7/3/2023).
"Although this brother in humanity is not a priest of the Diocese of Obala, let alone of the Roman Catholic Church, we strongly condemn his murder, hoping that his murderers are found and brought to justice in our country", continues Archbishop Bayemi Matjei, who expresses "his sincere condolences and compassion to his natural and religious family".
The Gallican church, founded in 2000, is the heir of the Saint-Louis Cultural Association, founded in France in 1916. This is a community that calls itself Catholic but which is not recognized by any Church.
It has changed its name several times throughout its history. It has been called: Gallican Church; Gallican Apostolic Catholic Church; French Catholic Apostolic Church; French Catholic Church; Traditional Catholic Church; Gallican Autocephalous Catholic Church; Gallican Catholic Church.
