EUROPE/SWITZERLAND - World Health Organisation 192 member countries attend 59th General World Health Assembly

Rome (Fides Service) - From 22 to 27 May at the Palace of the Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, the 59th General World Health Assembly will bring together 192 World Health Organisation member countries.
Themes for discussion will include: intensifying prevention and response to influenza pandemics, including the application of 2005 International Health Regulations; feeding of new born babies and children; HIV/AIDS; eradication of polio and smallpox; falciform anaemia; prevention of preventable eye diseases; international trade and health; WHO Convention Tobacco and the WHO 11th General Work Plan 2006-2015. The assembly will also discuss laws proposed by the Executive Board on these and other questions.
On 23 May the key address will be given by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, president of the Foundation for Integrated Health and patron of various different health and charity works. (AP) (11/5/2006 Agenzia Fides; Righe:18; Parole:168)
