Port au Prince (Agenzia Fides) - Father Robert Daudier, Director of the Hospital, reports on the recent initiatives of the Foyer Saint Camille Hospital in Port au Prince. It recently celebrated the International Day of Children with Disabilities, while the emergency caused by the violence of armed gangs has "brought several Haitian hospitals to their knees and forced them to close" and the country is facing "an increase in cases of cholera ".
However, the Foyer Saint Camille hospital remained open and operational. "Many pregnant women were taken in to give them the opportunity to deliver their babies safely," continues Father Daudier.
Very often expectant mothers go to other hospitals before they arrive at the Foyer, but without diesel they have no way of running their operating rooms or their equipment and therefore cannot take care of them, and often the babies still die before birth."
Referring to the International Day of Children with Disabilities, celebrated on December 3rd, the Director of the Foyer concludes that in the "Foyer Bethléem" in Port-au-Prince "invited around 100 children with severe physical and mental disabilities to give them a little more human warmth".
