AFRICA/NIGERIA - Erection of the Diocese of Wukari and appointment of the first Bishop

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Francis has established the new diocese of Wukari (Nigeria), with territory separated from the diocese of Jalingo, making it a suffragan of the Metropolitan See of Jos. The Holy Father has appointed Rev. Mark Maigida Nzukwein, until now Rector of St. Augustine's Major Seminary in Jos as the first Bishop of Wukari.
His Exc. Msgr. Mark Maigida Nzukwein was born on July 15, 1969 in Jenuwa Nyifiye, Diocese of Jalingo. He completed his studies in Philosophy at the St. Thomas Aquinas Major Seminary in Makurdi (1987-1990) and Theology at St. Augustine's Major Seminary in Jos (1991-1995).
He was ordained a priest on July 15, 1995 for the clergy of the Diocese of Jalingo.
He has held the following offices and completed further studies: parish vicar of the former St Augustine Cathedral in Jalingo (1995-1998); diocesan chaplain for youth (1996-1997); secretary to the bishop and diocesan director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (1996-1998); parish priest of St John in Mutum-Biyu (1998-1999); studies for a Licentiate in Catechesis and Youth Pedagogy at the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome (1999-2002); Rector of the Sacred Heart Minor Seminary in Jalingo (2002-2016); Vicar general of the diocese of Jalingo (2008-2016); course for Formators of major Seminaries at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum in Rome (2013); since 2016, Rector of St. Augustine's Major Seminary in Jos.
