AMERICA/ARGENTINA - The diocesan delegates of the Missionary Groups in search of common criteria to evangelise the most distant and disadvantaged areas of the country and form lay ad gentes missionaries

Friday, 5 May 2006

Buenos Aires (Fides Agency) - Summoned by the National Council of Missions, the Delegates of 21 Argentinean dioceses gathered recently in the national headquarters of the Pontifical Mission Societies to take part in the National Meeting of the Missionary Groups Diocesan Delegates 2006, according to Fr. Adrián Santarelli, National Secretary of the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of Faith in Argentina, and Néstor M. Corvalán, National Officer for the Missionary Groups.
During the meeting they underlined the importance of the Missionary Groups’ work and the efforts put into coordinate their tasks. Experience is the base of their search for common criteria to help evangelise the most distant and disadvantaged areas of the country. Last year the signing of a contract was offered as the most effective means of communion between the community that sends and the one that receives. This contract is considered a positive element, though it does also present some problems. The Manual for Missionary Groups of Argentina was also considered a relevant element to help give an orientation and an identity to the Missionary Groups. Another topic discussed during the Meeting, through the sharing of what the Groups are doing in the regions of Centro and Cuyo, was the preparation and sending of laypersons ad gentes; the testimony of the Missionary Movement Punto Corazon in Argentina and the world was presented, as well. At the end of the Meeting, the Delegates of the various Missionary Groups committed themselves to work intensely for the organisation of the next National Missionary Congress (COMINA) in August 2007, and to take part in the regional meetings of this year.
