ASIA/EAST TIMOR - Catholics young and old welcome Baucau diocese new radio station

Baucau (Fides Service) - Baucau diocese can now use its own radio station Radio Fini Lorosae to spread the Gospel. The radio began to broadcast a month ago: “We are deeply grateful to God for this gift”, said East Timor Catholics who welcomed the new structure with enthusiasm.
The purpose of the radio is to “build up community”, to be a point of unity for the Catholic community, and a channel of peace, reconciliation and social harmony. “Today the media is essential for spreading the message of Jesus Christ”, said Bishop Basilio do Nascimento of Baucau at the inauguration ceremony in the presence of many priests, religious and local people. The project for the radio was launched to mark the ninth anniversary of the diocese, created in 1997. It will be run with the aid of offerings and donations.
Programmes will focus on spreading the Word of God, catechises, education, health, questions regarding youth and women, news, entertainment, stories of everyday life.
