Bangkok (Fides Service) - More space, larger quantity of publications, better organisation for consultation, at the service of local Churches in Asia: with these objectives the Federation of the Asian Bishops’ Conferences FABC recently enlarged its Documentation Centre in the capital Bangkok .
The work was accomplished thanks to Cardinal Michai Kitbunchu, president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Thailand who made available the entire ground floor of a building in the compound of St. Louis Hospital Bangkok.
The Centre keeps copies of publications and documents issued by FABC and other Catholic Church documents and serves as an archive and reference point for local Churches, theologians of Asia and other continents. The Centre will be of great use in view of the 1st Asian Mission Congress to be held in October this year in Thailand.
FABC has offices in Hong Kong and Bangkok. It was instituted in agreement with the Holy See. Its purpose is to “promote among its members solidarity and co-responsibility for the good of the Church and society in Asia, to protect and promote the common good”. Secretary general at present his Archbishop Orlando Quevedo of Cotabato (Philippines). (Agenzia Fides 28/4/2006 righe 23 parole 232)
