Brasilia (Agenzia Fides) - "Sent by the Spirit to the ends of the world" is the theme that will accompany the new vocational and missionary initiative conceived and launched by the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Brazil with the collaboration of organizations of seminarians and religious of the South American country .
It will take place from January 5 to 17, 2023 in the Archdiocese of Manaus, in the heart of the Amazon region, and is aimed at seminarians, rectors, formators and young missionaries. This initiative is in line with the guidelines of the Brazilian Church, which include the promotion of youth missions, with a view to renewing the experience of faith, and vocational projects, to stimulate mission without borders, together with a pastoral conversion which requires a constant "departure" attitude. On the other hand, the organizers insist that "every priest must have a missionary heart and mentality, open to the needs of the Church and the world". In Brazil, the decision to implement this initiative in the Archdiocese of Manaus stems from the attention of the Church to the reality of the Amazon, with the possibility that other neighboring dioceses welcome those who want to live this experience. In the letter addressed to the National Director of the Brazilian PMS, Msgr. Leonardo Ulrich Steiner OFM, Archbishop of Manaus, writes: "I confirm the availability to carry out the initiative in our archdiocese. We will have the opportunity to live this missionary experience in communities that are located along the river, but also in the suburbs". About 500 people are expected to participate; For the occasion, a coordination group made up of representatives of the registered institutions will be created. (EG) (Agenzia Fides, 29/7/2022)
